The Democracy Matters Initiative (DMI) seeks to build constituencies for democratic reform and human rights across the region. We connect pro-democracy actors across diverse sectors and countries to articulate visions for democratic progress, create shared strategies for reform, and develop compelling public narratives for why democracy matters through research, policy, and advocacy.
The DMI’s Advisory Group drives the initiative’s activities, including virtual dialogues, public events, and publications on three core themes: 1) making the case for democracy and human rights, 2) pushing back against anti-democratic actors, and 3) developing strategies of communication and mobilization. This eight-member group of democracy experts from across the Middle East and North Africa provide foundational analysis, ingenuity, and guidance on advocating for democratic governance in the region and serve as a collaborative resource for other advocates looking to do the same.
